cat and dog together

Meet Poly, a sweet rescue cat with an unstoppable spirit and an infectious curiosity. She’s not one to back down from a challenge, and she has a penchant for bending the rules. In fact, Poly’s cleverness has even rubbed off on her canine sibling, Mila. Together, these two have been giving their owner, Madeline Mahallati, quite a run for her money.

Mahallati’s home is equipped with a glass door designed to keep her pets confined to the main living area. Over time, Mahallati got used to closing the door behind her, and it seemed that her furry companions understood that the door marked a boundary. That is, until one day, when Mahallati found the door mysteriously opened with Poly standing at her feet. As it turns out, Poly had taught herself how to open doors.

Poly’s new door-opening skill granted her freedom to roam as she pleased, bypassing the restrictions that once contained her. However, she couldn’t keep this newfound knowledge all to herself. Soon, she began teaching Mila the art of door-opening.

As Mahallati watched through the closed glass door, she observed Poly giving Mila a hands-on (or paws-on) tutorial. “Mila sat there and watched her,” Mahallati said. “She taught Mila to do it.” Once Mila caught on, the glass door lost all its pet-limiting power.

While Poly was more selective with her newfound skill, Mila took it to the next level. Before long, she was opening other doors throughout the house, including one leading to the backyard.

This display of ingenuity is a testament to Poly and Mila’s intelligence. Although their rebellious streaks may have caused some concern, Mahallati couldn’t help but be impressed. To ensure her pets’ safety, she decided to update the locks on exterior doors to make them less accessible.

For now, it seems that Poly and Mila have been outwitted. However, knowing their resourcefulness, it’s only a matter of time before these two clever critters come up with another way to bend the rules. In the meantime, Mahallati cherishes their intelligence and the love they bring to the family. “They are highly, highly intelligent,” she said. “We love them. They’re family.”
