According to Cassidy Morrison at the Daily Mail, new research suggests your face can hint at brain aging before symptoms appear.
In a study in Alzheimer’s Research & Therapy, researchers tracked 195,329 UK Biobank adults age 60 and up for about 12 years. People who said others thought they looked older had a 61 percent higher risk of dementia than those told they looked younger. PMC+1
Next, a separate group of about 600 older adults in China added another layer. Independent raters guessed ages from photos, and each extra year someone looked older linked to about 10 percent higher odds of measurable cognitive impairment. When the team measured wrinkles, crow’s feet around the eyes stood out more than other facial areas. PMC
So what could connect eye wrinkles and memory? The authors point to shared pathways like inflammation and oxidative stress. Heavy sun exposure can add to that burden, and it can show up on skin over time. In other words, crow’s feet may reflect how much wear your body has absorbed from the outside world. PMC
Still, wrinkles do not mean you will get dementia. However, they can be a gentle nudge to check in on your health. Protect your skin, move daily, and get consistent sleep. You can also shift more meals toward a plant based pattern, since heart health supports brain health too.
Meanwhile, take care of the Earth in the same breath. Walk with your pets in shaded green spaces, cut car trips when you can, and Support cleaner air. Small choices that help the environment can protect people and animals alike, and they fit naturally with more vegan living.
