A dog now named Fred was found on June 23, 2026, along Route 60 in New Kent County, Virginia, in heartbreaking condition. A veterinarian determined that both of his front legs had been broken roughly two months earlier and left untreated, and X-rays revealed 10 to 20 buckshot pellets embedded throughout his body. Despite everything he had endured, the New Kent Sheriff’s Office says Fred has remained sweet and trusting. No one yet knows who broke his legs, shot him, and abandoned him — and whoever did could hurt another animal, or a person, if they aren’t found. Please sign the petition urging authorities to investigate fully and hold the person responsible accountable.
Cruelty this deliberate rarely stops at one victim. Sign the petition urging Virginia authorities to pursue every lead and bring whoever harmed Fred to justice. If you want to help animals like him, One Green Planet’s 6 ways to get involved with helping abused or abandoned animals is a good place to start, and you can read more on Fred’s rescue via 12 On Your Side.
