Bangkok, Thailand – 13 July 2025: A Statue of Superdog names Krypto from A DC Comic Film Superman (David Corenswet as Clark Kent) displays at the theater.

James Gunn’s new Superman film is doing more than reviving the DC Universe—it’s helping real-life dogs find forever homes. According to recent data reported by Woofz, Google searches for “adopt a dog near me” have surged by 513% since the movie’s release. Searches for “rescue dog adoption near me” rose 163%, and even the specific phrase “adopt a schnauzer” shot up 299%.

The unlikely hero behind this trend? A four-legged, entirely CGI character named Krypto—Superman’s devoted foster dog. Although Krypto doesn’t exist in the real world, his origin is deeply rooted in one. Director James Gunn based the animated dog on his own real-life rescue, Ozu. That personal connection seems to have struck a chord with audiences nationwide.

This isn’t the first time Hollywood has influenced public behavior, but it’s refreshing to see a cultural moment that benefits animals instead of exploiting them. It’s also a timely reminder that companionship, loyalty, and love don’t have to come from breeders or pet stores—millions of animals are still waiting in shelters across the U.S.

What makes Krypto’s story so powerful is that it reflects the magic of rescue: giving a second chance to a creature that, like Ozu, might’ve otherwise been overlooked. Films that embrace rescue animals—whether animated or real—help normalize adoption and challenge outdated ideas about shelter pets being “damaged goods.”

Krypto might be Superman’s sidekick, but the real superpower is compassion. And right now, it’s trending.

Let’s ride this wave of awareness and turn it into action. If you’ve been thinking about getting a pet, skip the breeders and adopt. Visit your local shelter, volunteer, or simply share this story to inspire others. Love is waiting at your nearest rescue—no cape required.
