A California dog trainer, Kwong (Tony) Chun Sit, is facing multiple felony charges after the deaths of 11 dogs while they were under his care. According to police, Sit and his girlfriend, Tingfeng Liu, attempted to cover up the tragic deaths by dropping the dogs’ bodies off at different crematoriums. The disturbing case has led to charges of animal cruelty, abuse, and evidence destruction, drawing attention to the grave concerns over the treatment of animals in training facilities.
Sit, aged 53, and Liu, aged 23, were arrested on June 24, 2025, in Irvine, California. They have both pleaded not guilty to the charges, including felony counts for animal cruelty and the destruction of evidence. Investigators discovered that nine of the 11 dogs died around June 18, 2025, and their bodies were subsequently taken to crematoriums, a cover-up attempt that led to their arrest. The police were tipped off by a concerned pet owner, whose dog had allegedly died under Sit’s care and was cremated without the owner’s knowledge or consent.
The deaths of the dogs were later confirmed to be caused by heatstroke and blunt force trauma, according to necropsy reports. This revelation has sparked outrage, as the trainer was operating under various business names, including Happy K9 Academy, and allegedly lacked transparency about his operations. As investigations continue, the community remains horrified by the discovery of such cruelty and mistreatment of animals.
This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for better regulation and oversight of animal training services to ensure the safety and well-being of pets entrusted to these professionals. It is essential that we, as a society, hold individuals accountable for the care of animals and ensure that businesses involved in animal care are fully transparent.
Animal lovers and concerned citizens must continue to advocate for stricter laws and regulations around animal welfare. Only by standing up for these vulnerable creatures can we prevent further tragedies like this from occurring.
