Kamea, an 11-year-old orca born in captivity at SeaWorld San Antonio, has tragically died after spending her entire life confined to a concrete tank. In the wild, orcas live up to 90 years—Kamea never got close. Her short life is yet another heartbreaking example of the suffering these intelligent animals endure in captivity.
SeaWorld’s vague statement claimed Kamea “succumbed to her illness,” but the real cause of suffering is clear: confinement and exploitation. These social, wide-ranging marine mammals are denied everything natural. And despite SeaWorld’s 2016 promise to end orca breeding, the animals already in their parks remain trapped.
It’s time SeaWorld follows through. Every orca, dolphin, and beluga deserves a second chance—in a coastal sanctuary, not a tank.
Sign the petition now to demand SeaWorld San Antonio release its marine mammals to sanctuaries. Sign now to stop the suffering.
