Every year, fast fashion giants pump out 100 billion new clothing items—most made with synthetic, fossil-fuel-based fabrics like polyester. These materials can’t be composted, are rarely recycled, and often end up incinerated or dumped in landfills across the Global South. On average, shoppers wear these garments only 7 times before discarding them.

The UK is falling behind. The EU is already taking steps to introduce Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), which would force manufacturers to handle the waste they’ve created. The UK must do the same.
