Red Dye No. 3, a synthetic coloring made from petroleum, is still being used in foods across the U.S., especially in sweets and snacks aimed at children. This fossil fuel-based additive has been linked to cancer in animals and behavioral issues like ADHD in at least 23 human trials. It’s already banned in cosmetics and topical drugs—but somehow still ends up in what we eat.
