Turkeys are amazing animals that usually go underappreciated. They form strong social bonds with other turkeys, have great memories when it comes to location, and the color of their heads and throats will change depending on their moods!
Sadly, these beautiful animals are the centerpiece of many people’s holiday dinners and are slaughtered for their meat year-round. Last year, two turkeys named Rodney and Emily escaped this fate when they were rescued from a factory farm. Upon arriving at their temporary home, Rodney and Emily were still a bit scared after their experience on the factory farm. However, after their foster family put them near the fire, the turkeys warmed up physically and emotionally.
Rodney and Emily started to trust their foster mom and became the cuddliest little turkeys. They jumped right onto her lap and started fighting over the warmer spot near her neck. Emily seemed to always win the prize location. Rodney and Emily loved being around their foster mom so much that they would follow her everywhere and always make sure that she was in sight. These two show how affectionate and lovable the turkeys are!
Eventually, it was time for Rodney and Emily to go to their forever home at The Farm Animal Sanctuary in Evesham. While it was surely a hard goodbye, their foster family still visits as often as they can. Plus, now Rodney and Emily are living out their lives with other turkeys and different kinds of animals. They can roam as they please and never have to worry about being treated with the cruelty that is inherent to factory farms.
Save more turkeys like Rodney and Emily. Keep animals and animal products off your place during this holiday season and year-round!
