Rescued Husky Finds Forever Home After Years of Rejection

Milo, a rescue husky from Boston, Massachusetts, can finally sleep soundly at night after finding the loving home he always deserved. Adopted by Janna Pearlstein and her partner, David Meola, in January 2021, Milo’s journey to happiness was filled with challenges.

Milo’s difficult past began when he and his two sisters were abandoned in Texas at just three weeks old. Living as strays in the woods, their situation grew dire when the land they roamed was slated for redevelopment, threatening their survival. A compassionate foster carer intervened, rescuing and training the three huskies until they were ready for adoption. Despite hopes for a better future, Milo faced more hardship. He was found in a kill shelter two years later after escaping his new family, who no longer wanted him. His former foster carer feared for his life, as adult dogs are less likely to be adopted and many face euthanasia.

Milo’s fortune changed when Pearlstein and Meola decided to adopt during the pandemic. Initially fearful, especially of men, Milo slowly learned to trust his new family. “It took months for him to trust us and years for him to realize that we won’t abandon him,” Pearlstein said.

Three years later, Milo is a transformed dog. Once shy and timid, he is now playful and affectionate, loving car trips, exploring new places, and meeting new people. “He is so sweet and silly,” Pearlstein said. Milo also enjoys morning snuggles, mealtime spins, and being tucked in at night with his stuffed animals.

Pearlstein hopes Milo’s story encourages others to rescue dogs. “The impact you can make on a once-helpless animal is truly life-changing,” she said, dispelling stereotypes that shelter dogs are dangerous.
