Serenity the husky is a unique dog in lots of ways. She has a big personality that isn’t slowed down one bit by the invasive tumor in her skull.
“She is so sweet and has so much life inside her,” Serenity’s new foster mom Patti Dawson said. Serenity’s tumor is located in her nasal cavity, her eye sockets and skull. And the tumor has taken the bones in her face, according to Dawson.
But Serenity, who lives near Dallas now, still spreads happiness to those near and far. Dawson took her home from a San Antonio shelter and said that Serenity’s needs aligned with Dawson’s work as a special education teacher.
Serenity is getting care from an oncologist right now and Dawson said they’re working to give her the best life possible. “She went straight to an oncologist, to internal medicine and to a critical specialist to kind of do a complete workup.” Unfortunately, not much can be done about Serenity’s tumor but her personality is still intact.
“She gets up, leans in with this huge tumor and does this bump to me, like dogs do the bump, and kissed my face,” Dawson said. “At that point, I knew we were going to fight to the death to do what we could to save her because she had the life left in her.”

Serenity had a photoshoot with an animal photographer to help capture more of her essence. Renee Dowhaniuk took the photos. Check them out below:
Serenity hasn’t shown any signs of being in pain, so Dawson said her goal is to keep her as happy and healthy as possible. “If there is a light in the soul, there is a beauty in the person,” Dawson said. “With a little bit of care, these dogs can come back to life. She’s still in amazing spirits.”
