The man, Calvin Bautista, smuggled three of the pythons in his Pants as he rode a bus across the United States and Canadian border back in 2018.
Bautista case is being investigated by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. A statement says that the charges in the indictment are merely accusations at the moment, but if found guilty, the 36-year-old man could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, according to a statement by the Department of Justice.
