Picasso the Pit Bull-Terrier mix and his four other siblings were born to a backyard breeder in Porterville, California. While three of his siblings sold very quickly, the breeder was unable to sell Picasso and one of his brothers.

Unfortunately, Picasso was born with a facial deformity that makes it look as if his snout is going right while his jaw goes left. Sadly because of this, Picasso and his brother, Pablo, were taken to the Porterville Animal Shelter and the pups were scheduled to be euthanized. But thankfully Liesl Wilhardt, executive director of Luvable Dog Rescue in Eugene, Oregon found out about the pups just in the knick of time from Shannon Corbit, a volunteer at the shelter.

When Liesl Wilhardt found out both Picasso and Pablo, now ten months old, were on the shelter’s euthanasia list, she wasted no time in adopting them both. Look how happy they are!

Even with the facial deformity, Picasso is healthy. “He can eat sideways, but he’s a very messy eater. Same with water,” Wilhardt said. He is so cute!

Understandably, Picasso’s adorable unique features have made him a viral hit. Most of his deformity is simply cosmetic, so Picasso will have surgery soon to remove the upper canine. “His jaw is fine, the deformity is in the top part of his nose. The jaw hinge is not deformed. He can open it normally,” Wilhardt noted

Once Picasso’s tooth is fixed, he will be up for adoption. With hundreds of people interested in this sweet boy, we know he will go to a great forever home. “Picasso is outgoing, happy, curious and loving. He’s so unaware of how different he is,” Wilhardt said

Picasso’s breeder may have seen him as a lost profit, but Luvable Dog Rescue saw him for who he truly was: a loving, funny, affectionate dog who deserved a life full of happiness.

Each year in the U.S., six to eight million dogs and cats find themselves in animal shelters, with only about three million making it out alive.  Of the dogs, approximately 35 percent of them are purebreds, indicating that, although many purebred dogs are purchased as puppies, lots of them will still end up meeting the same sad fate as the rest.

For little more than the cost to drive to your closest shelter, you could go home with the puppy of your dreams and save a life. The bottom line is that when you buy, others die. So take a trip down to your local animal shelter and save a life today!

  1. I HATE BREEDERS. THEY ARE NOTHING SHORT OF BEING DOG TRAFFICKERS AND PIMPS – THEY USE THE PRECIOUS FRAGILE BODIES OF DOGS AND CATS TO MAKE A PROFIT.
THEY ARE DISPICABLE LOW LIFE SELFISH EXCUSES FOR HUMAN BEINGS.

  2. The ONLY thing wrong with Picasso, and his brother Pablo, was their POS backyard breeder.
EVERY animals we\’ve had in our family was either from a shelter, or rescued from a bad situation.
