Winter storms are knocking out power for nearly a million people across the United States, yet massive data centers keep pulling electricity as prices spiral out of control. During recent cold snaps, wholesale power prices surged to as high as $1,800 per megawatt hour as grid demand exploded. Families faced blackouts, dangerous cold, and soaring bills. This is not a weather problem. It is a policy failure.
Data centers that fuel artificial intelligence and cloud computing consume enormous amounts of electricity and do not scale back during emergencies. Utilities are forced to buy emergency power at extreme prices, then pass those costs directly to households. Electricity rates are already up more than five percent in a single year, and communities near data center hubs have seen increases of hundreds of percent.
Sign the petition now to demand action. Regulators must require data centers to pay their fair share, fund grid upgrades, and reduce demand during extreme weather. Sign now before the next storm hits.
