When Heard County Animal Control Officers went to save a puppy that a vulture was trying to grab and fly away with, they were not prepared for what they would find. Vultures were circling a rescue center, and one was trying to grab a puppy and fly away with it. When officers went to the Dogs Rock Rescue, they found hundreds of dead dogs that were decaying and being picked apart by vultures.

The Heard County Sheriff’s deputies saved almost 200 dogs of all ages in various states at Dogs Rock Rescue, west of Atlanta in Georgia. The dogs that were alive were suffering from emaciation, starvation, and dehydration. They were sick and had not had any veterinary care. The dogs were in small dirty cages, and the dead dogs were being eaten by maggots. What’s terrifying of all, this place had a license to be operating.
Animal abuse is more prevalent than many may think. According to PetPedia, every 60 seconds, an animal suffers from abuse, with more than 65 percent being dogs. More than 10 million animals die from abuse every year in the US alone, not including the livestock bred for consumption, who also suffer immense abuse. Animal abuse happens everywhere and is a serious issue. We need more laws to protect animals and hold abusers accountable.
