Parents Furious at Daughter For Wanting to Serve Vegan Food at Her Own Wedding

Recently, a vegan Reddit user posted on the forum r/Vegan asking for advice about her upcoming wedding. She explained that her parents are paying for everything and have repeatedly told her that they will do whatever she and her fiance want (to a reasonable degree). So the pair met with a caterer and came up with a custom sample menu of vegan food. But when she told her parents, all went south.

Wedding planning and hills to die on…

The Reddit user explained that her parents were both taken aback when she told them that she had requested vegan food. After all, she has been vegan for seven years at this point, but they have never cared to understand how much veganism means to her.

“I was thinking I just wouldn’t tell anyone about the food being all vegan, but it’s hard not to when my parents are paying and probably doing the tasting later,” she wrote.

Her parents told her how disappointed they were in her, and they said they thought they had raised her better.

“See, for them, I’m being inconsiderate, inhospitable, and mean. How could I force my ideals on others? I am being selfish and usually they’re proud of my decisions, but this is my worst one yet apparently,” she said.

Then, her dad texted her and asked if they could just serve some salmon at the wedding. He also asked her to send him links about why veganism is so important to her so that he could better understand.

“This gives me a tiny bit of hope, but I’m 99.9% sure that they would still require meat at the wedding.”

Now, the woman doesn’t know what to do. She thinks that she isn’t too far along in the planning process, and she could easily pay her parents back for the deposit on the venue, so she is considering an elopement or micro-wedding where she and her fiance actually have control. The only drawback is this could cause a lot of family drama.

  1. If her parents can’t do without eating meat on their daughter’s special day, they need to take a good look at why they’re so resistant. Then they need to suck it up and let their daughter call the shots.
