Authorities in Atlantic City are urgently seeking tips to identify a person responsible for repeatedly abandoning dogs at the Humane Society of Atlantic County. The latest incident, captured on surveillance, shows a dog being thrown over the shelter’s fence. Steven Dash, the shelter’s Executive Director, expressed frustration over the incident. “The person who dumped her over the fence didn’t even leave us a note,” Dash remarked. He criticized the lack of responsibility shown by abandoning the animals as if they were disposable.
This marks the fourth occurrence involving the same man, who is seen driving a black Cadillac sedan. Dash noted, “It was the same vehicle. Pulled up in the same spot. Took the three dogs off-leash, walked over to the fence and the dogs were well-behaved enough to stay right with him and he, one by one, threw them over the fence.”
The shelter’s fence poses a significant danger as it stands only four feet tall, with adjacent flower beds making it effectively a two-foot jump for the animals, potentially onto a highway. The pit bull involved shows signs of past trauma, indicated by scars on her back. Concerns extend beyond the dogs to possible issues in the perpetrator’s household, possibly affecting children as well. The case is under investigation by the Atlantic City Police, with the dog currently considered state’s evidence.
Despite the anger, Dash is focused on the dog’s care, hoping for her eventual adoption. The public is encouraged to provide any information to assist in the investigation. Contact the Atlantic City Police Department of Criminal Investigations Unit at 609-347-5766, or send an anonymous tip via text to tip411 (847411), starting the message with ACPD.
