Around 60,000 bottles of California Gold Nutrition multivitamins have been recalled due to safety concerns for children, according to a recent report by USA TODAY’s Greta Cross. The issue? The packaging doesn’t meet federal safety standards for products containing iron, which must be sold in child-resistant containers under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act.

The recall, posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on June 26, affects several California Gold Nutrition products sold by iHerb. Specifically, it includes the Daily Prenatal Multivitamin (white bottle with gold-trimmed label), the Women’s Multivitamin and Women’s 50+ Multivitamin (purple packaging), and the Ultamins Women’s 50+ variant. Each contains 60 capsules and was sold online between January 2019 and April 2025 on platforms like Amazon, Walmart, and Target.

Although no injuries or deaths have been reported, the risk of accidental iron poisoning in children is serious enough to warrant swift action. Consumers are urged to immediately store these supplements out of children’s reach and contact iHerb for a full refund. Instructions include photographing the product after writing your initials and the date on the packaging, then emailing the company at ProductRecall@iherb.com. You can also call iHerb at 888-430-4770.

This situation highlights the hidden risks behind seemingly “healthy” products. Many multivitamins and supplements are still made with animal-derived gelatin or synthetic fillers, and the supplement industry remains poorly regulated. As always, it’s worth questioning whether these products align with your health values—and the safety of your household.

Let’s keep wellness natural, ethical, and safe. Choose whole foods, plant-based sources of nutrients, and child-friendly packaging wherever possible.
