Lewis Hamilton has shared heartbreaking news with fans: his beloved English bulldog Roscoe passed away on Sunday at the age of 12. The Formula 1 champion, who now races for Ferrari, pulled out of a tyre test last week to be by Roscoe’s side after he was hospitalized with pneumonia.
According to Plant Based News, Roscoe’s heart stopped during sedation for an examination. Although vets managed to revive him, he entered a coma, and Hamilton later made what he described as “the hardest decision of my life” to let him go. On social media, Hamilton called his bond with Roscoe “one of the most beautiful parts of life” and thanked fans for their love and Support.
Hamilton adopted Roscoe in 2013 alongside his sister Coco, who passed away in 2020. The pair were regular fixtures in the Formula 1 paddock, and Roscoe continued to travel with Hamilton to races, even appearing on the cover of Vogue earlier this year.
Beyond being a loyal companion, Roscoe also shared Hamilton’s plant-based lifestyle. Since going vegan in 2017, Hamilton has been outspoken about protecting animals, urging millions of followers to stop eating meat for their health and the environment. Roscoe thrived on a plant-based diet too, with Hamilton saying it made him act “like a puppy again.” The driver even invested in Bramble, a plant-based pet food company, in 2021.
Roscoe’s passing is a reminder of the deep bonds we share with our pets. Hamilton’s tribute highlights not only the joy animals bring into our lives but also the power of compassionate choices—for our companions, for the planet, and for the future.
Choosing kindness toward animals, whether through adopting rescue pets or embracing plant-based living, is one of the most meaningful ways we can honor their place in our lives.
