When a good Samaritan found a kitten with burns on nearly 80 percent of her body on the front porch of a senior citizen’s home in south wast Baltimore, she did exactly the right thing. She contacted Baltimore City Animal Control who responded and brought the little one, now named Poppy, to Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS).
Shockingly, at only eight-weeks-old, Poppy has large burn areas on her head, back, chest and ears. Her tail is also broken in multiple places, BARCS notes on Facebook.
As of right now, Poppy’s chance of survival is “considered guarded” by BARCS because of how severe the burns are, but the shelter refuses to give up on her.
BARCS is asking for any donation amount towards their Franky Fund to help cover Poppy’s treatment and rehabilitation costs. If you are able to Donate, you can do so here. We are wishing Poppy all the best and hope for a positive recovery!
It’s also important to note what happened to Poppy is potentially animal abuse. Some incidents of animal cruelty go unreported because of a lack of understanding of what is considered neglect. There are signs to look out for when identifying animal abuse and neglect. It’s good to know the signs in case you ever come across an incident of animal abuse. And of course, please always speak up if you see animal abuse by calling the proper authorities. It’s important we speak up for those who cannot!
