Dr. Amy Fox, a small animal vet in New York City, explains that pets are naturally curious and often explore new objects by chewing or licking them. Unfortunately, this behavior can turn deadly when it comes to power cords. Plugged-in devices pose a risk of electrocution, while unplugged cords can still cause choking or intestinal injuries if chewed.

Topliff highlights six appliances that should be unplugged after use. Countertop appliances like coffee makers and air fryers often attract pets, especially curious cats. Lamps and their tempting cords should be unplugged to prevent nighttime mischief. Hair tools such as dryers and straighteners should be packed away quickly to avoid burns or accidents. Fans and heaters, although useful for comfort, should be unplugged when not actively needed. Chargers left dangling are like toys to many pets, making them an easy target. Finally, TVs and game consoles should be unplugged or their cords tucked away when pets are roaming free.

For pet owners who find unplugging inconvenient, Topliff suggests alternatives like obedience training, pet-proofing cords, using smart plugs, or simply offering pets more engaging activities to stave off boredom.
