Dogs are certainly one of our closest friends and allies, remaining loyal to the core to their family unit and instinctively protecting them in times of danger. This is just what happened in a recent incident on a corn farm in central Minnesota.
A two-year-old boy was playing with his cousins at dusk when he wandered off into his grandparents’ cornfield, where he often accompanied his grandfather during farm work. After thirty minutes searching for him, the sky was growing dark and the autumn temperatures were dropping so his family contacted police to help in the search.
Using heat-detecting devices, the search and rescue team noticed a dog-like figure pacing around another smaller figure that was still. It was this dog’s movement that helped rescuers notice the tiny boy and save his life.
Lieutenant Vic Weiss, who was involved in the rescue, said the dog’s movements near the child “absolutely, for sure” played the major role in leading the search and rescue team to the boy so quickly at nightfall. “The [older] dog was in preservation and protection mode,” Weiss added.
Upon the rescue, it was discovered that the dog was Bella Grace, the family’s trusted English Springer Spaniel, who had recently given birth, and one of her puppies was comforting the lost toddler. The dogs and child are in good health and back at home reunited with their family.
We sure hope Bella Grace and her puppy are receiving the royal treatment with lots of treats and belly rubs for their heroic help!
