Dog Found in Dirty, Abandoned Home Needs Your Help to Save His Leg

Author Bio

I am a writer and illustrator living in Poland.

For Axel, a dog recently saved by Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, “home” was a cramped spot underneath an abandoned house full of garbage and dirt. It was more of a trap for the poor dog whose leg, as it was soon found out, was severely injured. Fortunately, even though he was hidden from view, sweet Axel was discovered and taken to a hospital right away – and now, the rescuers who took him under their wing are doing everything to save his leg from amputation.

When Axel was discovered in his hiding place, it was clear that there was no time to waste – he had to be removed from under the house and given medical help as soon as possible.

Slowly and patiently, the kind person who found him managed to get Axel from underneath the house and immediately took him to the Emergency Hospital.

Axel’s injured leg was wrapped in a bandage – perhaps an act of kindness from someone who had tried to help the dog somewhere along the way. Now, the bandage, which hadn’t been changed for weeks, was decayed and dirty.

There’s a chance his leg will have to be amputated, but rescuers are doing all they can to prevent that.

Although the prognosis is rather bleak, rescuers are hoping that with several weeks of medical treatment at their Texas Vet Partner, the dog’s leg can still be saved. This attempt, however, will cost thousands of dollars – but the rescuers are determined to try and do all they possibly can to help Axel keep all four paws.

You can help Axel by making a donation to his medical care via the rescue’s website or PayPal.

  1. In many cases I\’ve seen, an amputation is very sad, but is preferable to a long term infection, pain, and immobility. Dogs, and cats, do very well with three limbs and adapt as if nothing has changed. It happens every day and literally all of the pets have done beautifully with three limbs, or even less.
