When Icky first arrived at Spark of Love Animal Rescue, the staff immediately noticed his overwhelming fear of everything. Recognizing his need for a nurturing environment, they placed him in a foster home with a family that was willing to offer him the patience and care he required. The foster family, understanding the importance of preparing Icky for his forever home, showered him with love and Support.

Hope soared when a family showed interest in a trial adoption with Icky. However, during the Fourth of July celebrations, disaster struck. The loud fireworks proved too much for Icky, causing him to panic and bolt into the wilderness, leaving his rescuers terrified for his safety.

Immediately, Kari Nulph, the president of Spark of Love Animal Rescue, sprang into action. Among them was Icky’s former foster mom, who knew him best, and experienced local dog trappers, Rick and Kim Canales. Determined to bring Icky back home, they searched tirelessly for days, refusing to give up even when hope started to wane.

Just when the team was on the verge of losing faith, a glimmer of hope appeared. Through binoculars, they spotted Icky at the top of a walking path. The relief was palpable, but they knew that convincing the scared dog to trust them again wouldn’t be easy. Slowly and cautiously, they approached, calling out familiar words, hoping to rekindle the bond they had formed during his time in foster care.

Little by little, Icky realized that the people calling out to him were there to help. With courage in his heart, he made his way towards them, taking brave steps towards safety. The moment was filled with emotion as he finally reached his former foster mom’s lap. Tears of relief and joy flowed freely as they embraced the little dog who had braved so much.

Today, Icky is safe and sound in his foster home, learning to trust again with the love and patience of his foster mom. The traumatic experience he endured hasn’t dampened his spirit, and he finds comfort in warm snuggles under a blanket. The Spark of Love Animal Rescue team is hopeful that Icky’s resilience and bravery will soon be rewarded with a loving forever family of his own.
