A new report has revealed that America’s clean fuels sector isn’t just helping the planet—it’s also driving major economic growth. According to the Clean Fuels Alliance America and research firm GlobalData, the U.S. biodiesel and renewable diesel industry generated a staggering $42.4 billion in economic activity in 2024, while supporting more than 107,000 jobs across the country.
The study, titled Economic Impact of Biodiesel on the U.S. Economy 2024, draws from real data and production figures, including 5 billion gallons of domestic fuel. These fuels are primarily made from soybeans, recycled cooking oil, and animal fats. Nearly half of the industry’s economic impact came from fuel production alone—$19.9 billion and 41,500 jobs—while raw material sourcing, including soybean oilseed production, added another $15.3 billion and 30,600 jobs.
Donnell Rehagen, CEO of Clean Fuels, said the results prove that clean fuels “not only lower carbon emissions but deliver real income and jobs, especially for soybean producers and the broader agricultural economy.”
While the current figures are impressive, the future outlook is even bigger. If planned capacity expansions go ahead, the clean fuels industry could generate $60.25 billion annually and Support 145,700 jobs. That’s a big win for rural communities and for anyone hoping to move away from fossil fuels.
However, it’s worth remembering that not all clean fuels are equal. Many are still tied to animal agriculture, which raises ethical and environmental concerns. Plant-based sources like used cooking oil and soybean oil are far more aligned with a sustainable, cruelty-free future.
If we want a cleaner and kinder planet, we should Support fuels that are both low-carbon and plant-based. It’s time to back solutions that work for the environment, animals, and people—without compromise.
