Clean energy in America just took a serious hit—especially in Republican-led districts. According to a recent Clean Economy Works update by nonpartisan policy group E2, $7.9 billion in clean energy investments were scrapped or scaled back in just the first three months of 2025. That’s more than triple the cancellations seen over the past two and a half years combined.
The surge in cancellations comes after former President Trump began rolling back clean energy policies and undermining critical tax credits that had been driving a boom in renewable energy projects. Since January, 16 major factories and projects were either cancelled, closed, or downsized—including Bosch’s $200 million hydrogen plant in South Carolina and Freyr Battery’s massive $2.5 billion project in Georgia.
This wave of cancellations has hit Republican districts the hardest. More than $6 billion in investments and over 10,000 jobs have vanished in GOP-led areas alone. Ironically, these districts had benefited most from Biden-era clean energy incentives, racking up 62% of all project announcements and 83% of total investment since 2022.
Michael Timberlake of E2 summed it up: “Clean energy companies still want to invest in America, but uncertainty over Trump administration policies… is taking a clear toll.”
There’s still hope. In March, companies announced $1.6 billion in new clean energy projects—including a $200 million Tesla battery plant near Houston expected to create 1,500 jobs. But with mounting policy uncertainty, the future of these projects hangs in the balance.
Let’s be real: clean energy isn’t just about saving the planet—it’s about creating jobs, boosting local economies, and breaking free from fossil fuels. Every policy rollback threatens not just green jobs, but a livable future. Keep pushing for sustainable solutions and vote for leaders who back renewable energy, animal protection, and a plant-based future.
