The hilarious clips show the black cat, Domes, hitting the rescue dog, Apollo in the face while he tries to sleep. The video shared by @domesroams now has over 1.3 million views and goes along with the caption, “Telling my 8 pound cat not to start fights with the 60 pound dog.”
Fortunately, Domes and Apollo get on pretty well most of the time, according to other videos on their TikTok. The pawrent, Katherine Kustas of Long Island, New York told Newsweek,
“Domes and Apollo are actually really good friends! I found Domes alone in a car engine when he was only a month old, so I was a little worried about introducing him to Apollo because of their size difference. But their relationship really surprised me.
“Apollo is very gentle and tolerant, so generally Domes will hunt and pounce on him, but occasionally Apollo will start poking Domes with his snout until Domes starts playing.
“Once one of them starts the fight, Apollo usually chases Domes around the house for a bit, which is what Domes seems to want. They never seriously try to hurt each other though.”
It is not uncommon for dogs and cats to fight occasionally. Dogs and cats are different species with different social structures, communication styles, and behaviors, so it can take time for them to learn how to coexist peacefully. However, frequent or intense fighting can be a sign of a problem that needs to be addressed.
If you notice your dog and cat fighting roughly, it’s important to separate them immediately to prevent injury. You can try to identify the cause of the fighting and work to address the underlying issue. For example, if the fighting is related to territorial issues, you may need to create separate spaces for each animal. You can also try to encourage positive interactions between your pets by offering treats or toys when they are near each other.
