A Brave Dog’s Journey to Find a Forever Home

Omid

Meet Omid, a courageous four-month-old shepherd mix who has endured a heartbreaking start to life. Rescued from the streets of Iran, Omid’s journey has been one of immense suffering, survival, and hope. After being severely injured by a malicious acid attack, she was saved by the compassion of a San Diego woman, Moloud Rabieyousefi, who tirelessly worked to bring her to safety in the United States. Now, at the Helen Woodward Animal Center in California, Omid awaits the one thing she truly deserves—a forever home where she can find the love, care, and happiness she so bravely embraces.

Omid’s life took a tragic turn when she fell victim to an unimaginable act of cruelty. In Iran, where there are no animal cruelty laws to protect innocent creatures like her, she was attacked with acid, leaving her disfigured and without an eyelid. Her suffering might have been overlooked if not for the kindheartedness of Moloud Rabieyousefi.

In March, Omid’s story reached the Helen Woodward Animal Center, catching the attention of animal lovers and inspiring a collective effort to ensure her well-being. Dr. Todd Strubbe, a veterinary eye specialist at VCA Eye Clinic for Animals, stepped in and performed successful surgery to reconstruct her damaged eyelid. With the surgery behind her, Omid began her journey toward healing, both physically and emotionally.

Despite the pain and suffering she endured, Omid’s spirit remained unbroken. Described as the epitome of forgiveness, kindness, and strength, she bears no grudges, offering a smile, kiss, or nuzzle to every person she meets. The Helen Woodward Adoption Services Director, Kendall Schulz, expressed admiration for Omid’s resilience and emphasized that she deserves all the love and happiness the world has to offer.

Despite her remarkable progress and a clean bill of health, Omid’s quest for a forever home continues. Her ideal family would understand the lingering effects of her traumatic past and can provide her with a calm and nurturing environment. A spacious yard where she can relax and unwind when feeling overwhelmed would be ideal. Although Omid gets along well with other dogs, the perfect home would have no roommates and no family members under the age of 14. Previous dog experience is essential to help her adjust to her new life and Support her on her journey to complete healing.

Omid’s story is a testament to the resilience of animals and the power of compassion and hope. Despite enduring unimaginable pain and cruelty, she remains a loving, forgiving, and hopeful soul, ready to embark on a new chapter in her life—a chapter that promises love, care, and a forever home. As she continues her search for the perfect family, the world eagerly awaits to welcome this brave and deserving dog into the hearts of those who will cherish her for the rest of her life. Let us join together to find Omid her happy ending, offering her the love and affection she so courageously extends to everyone she meets.
