As the tragedies in Ukraine continue, the latest heartbreaking loss is that of two Ukrainian zoo workers who are believed to have been killed by Russian soldiers.
The employees were reported missing on March 7th, after they had returned to the Feldman Ecopark zoo in Kharkiv during the Russian invasion to try to save more animals and bring them to safety.

Originally, their coworkers thought that the two must have fled to a different region amid the crossfire and were hopeful that they would be in contact or return. Russian soldiers are believed to be behind the gruesome murders.
A statement from the zoo said that the workers were found ‘shot by the enemies’ aka the Russian soldiers. The bodies were found barricaded in a back room.
“We’ll cherish the blessed memory of these wonderful and courageous people. Sincere condolences to their families and friends. We believe that inhumans who have committed this will definitely be punished!” Feldman Ecopark said in a statement.
The Feldman Ecopark zoo in Kharkiv has made many headlines since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and unfortunately, these are not the first workers the zoo has lost. Three workers were killed amid Russian shelling at the zoo.
Recently, the zoo announced they would have to put down thousands of animals due to Russian shelling. Since then, they have been able to rescue some animals and bring them to safety. They have been able to save many animals like kangaroos and tapirs. Videos went viral of drivers risking their lives to help move the animals to other parts of Ukraine.
We applaud these heroes that are risking their lives to save these helpless animals and call for an end to the war in Ukraine!
