This is not your ordinary animal rescue story, said Crews from Woolwich Fire Company, when they were dispatched on the morning of May 22 to the High Hill estate development to rescue a 4-foot lizard that appeared to be stuck in a tree in a residential neighborhood.

A resident in Woolwich was walking out the door in the morning when she miraculously discovered a 4-foot-long Monitor lizard sunbathing in her tree near the front door. This concerned resident immediately called 911 to report her unusual finding.
Soon after, 2516’s crew responded to the emergency call, and with the assistance of the police and animal control, they were able to safely remove the lizard from the tree.
The Woolwich Fire Company shared some photos of the rescue on Facebook, including shots of firefighters heading up the tree. You can also see an animal control officer gently handling the lizard before ultimately putting them into a kennel in the video shared by NJ.com.
The lizard was transported to the county facility for departure to a new home, reported Woolwich Fire Company.
Monitor lizards are native to Africa, Asia, Australia, and certain Pacific islands, which made this little guy’s discovery so shocking. Although the fire rescue company did not provide details on where the lizard came from, it was a successful rescue nonetheless!
