The price of a fur coat is much greater than what one sees on its price tag. Fur farming involves the confinement of animals in tiny cages that get caked with feces, which cause animals extreme physical harm and emotional distress. Then they are “beaten, gassed, electrocuted, and possibly skinned alive.” Trapping the animals is no better. Steel-jaw leghold traps “rip flesh, sever tendons, and break bones” until the ensnared animal is picked up and killed by the trapper.
“Hide”, is a new short film from Dustin Brown and Fur Free Alliance with the Support of Humane Society of the United States, FOUR PAWS International, GAIA – Global Action in the Interest of Animals, and Anima International. “Hide” follows the process of making a fur coat from the hunter to the buyer. The film features music by Billie Eilish and the buyer is played by actress, model, and fashion designer, Mena Suvari. Both celebrities have spoken out against the fur industry.
Not only does the film address the cruelty of killing an innocent animal for their fur, but also the poor conditions that garment workers are subject to and the hypocrisy of animal lovers that wear fur. People who buy fur garments often remain willfully ignorant of the process behind their garments. However, the buyer in this film comes home to a dog that has an uncanny resemblance to a fox that the fur trapper killed for the coat. Once she sees her dog sit on her new fur coat, the buyer begins to have a powerful realization about what fur clothes truly entail.
It’s time to put an end to the cruel fur industry! Sign this petition to demand that Parliament end all fur trapping in the U.K.
