Evidence is building that having a pet, especially a dog, in your household while you’re pregnant will help protect your unborn child from disease and allergies in the future, but what about after your baby is born? Can your big goofy dog be gentle and caring around your baby? Will your dog extend his/her companionship to the child?
The video below is proof that dogs will indeed protect new members of a family. The compilation is full of touching and comical moments of dogs sticking close to their new sibling. Sometimes they’re just chilling and napping together while at other times the dogs are actively protecting their young companions. To these babies, their dogs have already become their very first best friends. It’s a bond that will always be a part of their lives and will most likely influence them to become future guardians themselves one day. How wonderful!

Guarding is not cute. It’s a sign of dominance which could escalate if not challenged. I appreciate dogs have a bond with babies and children but care must be taken to establish them as pack leaders rather than a toy they should protect from others. The dog that was snapping at their owner when they went to touch the child is an accident waiting to happen, my dogs allow me to take meat, bones etc from them as they respect me… this is the way it should be to safeguard the kids.
Very cute
I wouldn’t have my dog “all over” my baby like that. Some of these are frightening.
