Dogs love unconditionally. They are sweet to us even when we don’t deserve it and they always remember where their home and family is. One dog recently walked for 90 days to return to her foster mom after she was adopted by a different family. There are countless stories of dogs being abandoned and waiting for their families to return. It’s heartbreaking and yet it continues to happen. In February, Speranza Animal Rescue posted on Facebook about a dog who was waiting on his family’s old porch to return. But they moved away and abandoned him there.
The dog, now named Cupid, was living in the area where his family used to live. He was eating from dumpsters, he’d paw frantically at the door to be let in, and he was scared of strangers. Fortunately, the right stranger was called to help him one day. Neighbors said the family moved out and must have abandoned him, but Janine Guido, founder of Speranza Animal Rescue knew she couldn’t leave him there.
Since she rescued him, he’s been filling the shelter with love and joy. He’s a very sweet, affectionate dog and they received over 50 applications to adopt him shortly after sharing his story.
However, Speranza Animal Rescue has many dogs up for adoption and they all have compelling stories and are just as deserving of a loving family and furever home.
Consider fostering or adopting a pet to help shelters make space for other animals like Cupid and to give a dog, cat, bunny, or whichever animal you chose to rescue a loving home!
