A boating trip on the San Sebastian River in Florida took a terrifying turn when Maddie, a 9-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, fell into the water and was attacked by a shark. Bill and Terri Hoge, Maddie’s owners, were bringing their boat back to the dock when the incident occurred.
Maddie slipped off the bow of the boat and was soon caught in the boat’s prop wash. Initially, the Hoges thought Maddie was safe, but as they tried to pull her back on board, she vanished beneath the surface. After a tense few seconds, Maddie reappeared, and Terri quickly dove into the water to rescue her.
Once aboard, the couple noticed that Maddie was bleeding severely. They rushed her to an emergency veterinary clinic, where they received shocking news: the wounds weren’t from the boat’s propeller but likely from a shark. Maddie had sustained multiple puncture wounds, a broken pelvis, and extensive bruising. Despite the ordeal, Maddie survived, leaving the Hoges and their veterinarian in awe of her resilience. The vet speculated that the shark may have released Maddie due to her unfamiliar taste or the fierce fight she put up.
