Shelter Dog Would Stare Out Window Waiting to Be Noticed, Finally Has New Home!

Shelter dog rests head on window sill

For one shelter dog, social media fame found him his perfect family. While Steve Tyler was at the Bradshaw Animal Shelter in Sacramento, CA, he spent his days staring out his kennel window, hoping someone would notice him and give him a forever home. Shelter staff said that the only time he would take a break from looking longingly at the world was when he was snuggling with another shelter dog he had become friends with. After Steve Tyler spent months in the shelter, waiting patiently, the staff came up with an idea. They thought that if everyone could see the dog waiting patiently for his forever home, it might increase his chances of adoption

So, they posted a video of Steve Tyler to their TikTok page. Along with a caption sharing his adoption information, they included a call for people to share the video. Hopefully, they thought, someone would be willing to give this sweet shelter dog a forever home.

After being viewed more than 1.6 million times across TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, it worked! Steve Tylor was adopted by a loving family who had seen his video. Immediately, they thought he would be a perfect fit. So, they headed to the shelter to meet him. Immediately their daughter and Steve Tylor became fast friends. They adopted him and brought him home. He got along great with the existing dog, and the family says it feels like he has been there for much longer. Now Steve Tyler has a forever home, a new cuddle buddy, and even a new name – Donner!

Staff from the Bradshaw Animal Shelter say that the experience helped highlight the importance of social media for animal rescues. Sometimes it can be difficult for animals to find the perfect family where they fit right in. However, the more people that see them, the more likely they are to find someone just right for them! Be sure to follow your local shelters and rescues on social media.
