Shelter Dog Left Waiting for Adoption in Sad Video

In a touching and sorrowful scene shared on TikTok by the Livingston County Humane Society, a dog named Zare was seen lying in his kennel after a family who had planned to adopt him failed to show up on the pickup day. The video, posted in May, captures Zare’s palpable sadness, underscored by the caption: “POV: you thought you were getting adopted last week but your family never showed up for you.”

Zare, a nearly four-year-old Labrador mix, has been at the Livingston County Humane Society in Rowe, Illinois, for about six months. A spokesperson from the shelter described him as an incredibly sweet dog who loves both running and cuddling. Despite his unfortunate past, Zare remains affectionate and is eager to find a loving home.

Each year, approximately 6.3 million pets enter shelters in the U.S., translating to around 17,260 pets daily. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, shelters saw an increase in intake numbers, with January 2023 alone seeing 46,807 pets, an increase from the previous year. Sadly, around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized annually. To combat this, shelters are working diligently to reduce euthanasia rates through adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programs, and behavioral rehabilitation. Zare’s story quickly gained traction on social media, garnering over 19,400 views and 1,883 likes.
