Sad Dog is Returned to Shelter for a Second Time [VIDEO]

Lana, a one-year-old Catahoula mix, has faced a heartbreaking journey of adoption and return not once, but twice. The devastating footage captured at the Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California, portrays Lana pacing in her kennel, her young heart shattered by the repeated rejections she has endured.

For Lana, the shelter has been the only constant in her tumultuous life. Rescued as a three-week-old puppy along with her litter from animal control, Lana quickly found herself adopted. However, her joy was short-lived as she was returned to the shelter on two occasions due to struggles with containment and separation anxiety.

Meet Lana! Lana is an approximately 1-year-old Catahoula Mix. This sweet girl loves to run and play with her shelter friends. Her favorite thing at our facility is the dog park, as she gets to run and be free. With this, we believe she would make the best hiking buddy or the best fur member to any family that enjoys long walks and adventures. Lana does jump really high and needs a household with a secured, fenced yard. Ruben Cantu, an animal care adoption supervisor at the Valley Animal Center, expressed his concern for Lana, stating that she “absolutely struggles” in the shelter environment. Despite efforts from the staff to provide enrichment and training, Lana continues to seek a way out of her kennel, longing for a place to call home.

Statistics reveal a harsh reality for dogs like Lana; as they grow older, their chances of finding a new home diminish. While 95 percent of puppies listed for adoption end up rehomed, the proportion drops to 80 percent for young dogs and declines further with age.

But, amidst Lana’s struggles, there is hope. Cantu believes there is someone out there who can provide Lana with the dedicated care and patience she needs. A quiet setting and a committed individual willing to build a bond with Lana are essential for her well-being.

The video of Lana’s reaction, captured by @JJACK.IIE, struck a chord with viewers, gaining over 26,000 views and 2,500 likes.
