Rescue Dog Overcomes Traumatic Past

Aino Korhonen, living in Bali with her boyfriend, shared the emotional journey of her rescue dog, Twinkie, who still carries scars from her past. Twinkie was found abandoned by the side of the road in 2022, malnourished and fearful. Korhonen believes her dog’s trauma stems from her earlier life on the streets of Bali, possibly involving mistreatment by humans.

Twinkie’s most profound fear is water, a fear linked to being dumped in a river before her rescue. “She even used to be scared of the beach as she would see water and feel scared,” Korhonen said. Though much progress has been made, Twinkie still gets anxious around moving water. Despite this, she enjoys running, cuddling, and playing with other dogs, and has started overcoming her fears, including crossing a small water path at the beach.

Korhonen hopes her TikTok videos raise awareness about supporting rescue dogs through their trauma. “She’s a very happy dog and certainly loyal,” Korhonen shared, highlighting the progress Twinkie has made in healing.
