The sound of sizzling flesh and the cries of frightened foals mark one of the most archaic forms of animal cruelty still allowed in Germany — horse branding. Despite modern microchips offering safe, traceable identification, young foals are still being burned with hot irons, leaving them in agony and at risk of infection.
Although branding is technically banned without anesthesia, there is currently no approved anesthetic for this procedure, allowing the practice to continue under a legal loophole. The result? Foals as young as three months old suffer severe burns and trauma — all in the name of “tradition.”
Sign the petition now to urge the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture to permanently ban horse branding and replace it with humane, modern identification methods that protect animals instead of harming them.
