A seemingly routine task at Chongqing Zoo in China took a frightening turn when a zookeeper was unexpectedly chased by a 9-year-old panda named DingDing. The incident occurred on the morning of September 19, as visitors watched in surprise.
While entering the panda‘s den, the keeper failed to properly secure the door, leaving DingDing free to roam near the exit. As the zookeeper tried to shut the door, DingDing became irritated. In a surprising moment, the panda began to chase the keeper around the enclosure, eventually knocking her down. Witnesses were stunned as the playful giant pawed at the zookeeper, with some fearing for her safety.
Fortunately, both the zookeeper and DingDing were unharmed, and after a tense few moments, the panda moved away, allowing the keeper to escape. Zoo officials are now monitoring DingDing’s behavior to ensure the animal is not experiencing stress.
Despite the scare, pandas are known to be gentle creatures. According to the World Wildlife Fund, giant pandas are peaceful by nature and prefer to avoid conflict, though they will defend themselves if necessary. This rare incident highlights the importance of ensuring proper safety measures when interacting with animals, even those as beloved as DingDing.
