Luxury fashion house Max Mara has announced it will no longer sell fur or fur products. This decision marks a major shift for the brand, which previously featured designs made from fox, mink, and raccoon dog fur.
The change comes after years of pressure from animal advocacy groups, who have long campaigned against the cruelty of the fur industry. Lisa Levinson, Campaigns Director for In Defense of Animals, celebrated the decision, calling it a “significant victory for the countless animals who suffer short, painful lives and brutal deaths for fashion. We will continue to stand with activists and urge the few unfashionable holdouts, like LVMH’s Louis Vuitton and Dior, as well as Anne Fontaine, to urgently follow suit and commit to a fur-free future.”
Max Mara joins a growing list of over 1,500 major designers and brands that have embraced a fur-free policy, including Versace, Gucci, Prada, and Burberry. As the fashion world continues to evolve, it’s clear that compassion is becoming the new trend. Katie Nolan, Wild Animals Campaigner for In Defense of Animals, said, “Fur is out of fashion, and compassion is in.”
The spotlight now turns to other luxury brands, such as Louis Vuitton and Dior, urging them to follow Max Mara’s lead and commit to a fur-free future.
