About Simply Bar: The Simply Bar is a small Canadian company that was founded in 2002. The founder, Cathy Richards, set out to create a bar that was both filling and easy to digest; high in protein and low in fat; low glycemic with a handful of natural ingredients. The result?

Each bar has 16 grams of protein, 2-4 grams of fat, under 3 grams of sugar, at least 4 grams of fiber, and 160 calories or less. They are also considered a good source of iron. The Simply Bar is a natural protein bar with more fiber than sugar!

The bars are sweetened with organic brown rice syrup, rate low on the glycemic index, and contain no refined sugars. Each flavor contains 10 ingredients or less – and they are all things you can pronounce! All bars are certified vegan, gluten-free, and kosher.

The One Green Planet Verdict: In terms of ingredients and nutrition it’s hard to beat these bars. A natural protein bar with more fiber than sugar? Pretty amazing! And packing 16 grams of protein into a 150 calorie bar is also quite a feat. But the real question…how do they taste?

Well, we loved them! Overall, the texture is pleasantly crunchy, like a less sticky version of a crispy rice bar. The Cinnamon Pecan and Lemon Coconut flavors were definitely our favorites. But all the flavors were true to their names, and they all tasted very natural.

With a clean list of ingredients, a significant dose of protein, and low sugar content, these bars were in fact quite satisfying as well as easy to digest. They proved to be a great option before or after a workout, as an on-the-go snack, or with some fruit or a smoothie for breakfast. Highly recommended!

Light and full of protein

May 24, 2012 by Laurie

I really like these, especially because they are light enough to not weigh you down before a workout, loaded with protein, and taste great, too! They do soften considerably in the heat, which makes them not as tasty texture-wise, but the flavor is still there.

Workout Replenishing Bar

May 19, 2012 by Ray

Simply Bar = Simply Protein! This bar is fabulous for delivering lots of protein to build muscles and sustain my energy! I've never heard of these bars but definitely will be getting some more as they are a great snack treat after my workout routine and don't ruin my diet!

Quite Simply, Lovely

May 16, 2012 by Kaleigh Wyrick

The simply bar is a lovely addition to the options available for vegan AND gluten free bar snacks. The crispy texture provides a nice chewy experience, and the sweetness is so light that it doesn't have that sickly-sweet that other bars have. The level of sweet combined with the flavors of each bar combine quite nicely to give the sensation of infusing your entire mouth with its essence.

Cinnamon was my favorite, just because I am a die-hard lover of cinnamon, but the others were tasty as well, and satisfying, both in the eating experience and in the satiety that followed. I liked how you bite into the puffy yet thick bar, and as you chew the crispy texture melts on your tongue. It isn't the texture you go for if you are looking for the chewy "raw" texture of fruit and nut bars, so just keep that in mind.

The only reason I don't give them 5/5 stars is because the ingredients include "soy protein isolate" and "natural flavors," which, don't sound completely "all natural" to someone looking for whole, unprocessed foods, but for what the product is -- a simple, filling, and tasty vegan snack that includes organic ingredients -- it is an excellent choice.

    Tasty, protein-packed, low calorie delights!

  2. avatar Danielle P. says:

I only purchase energy bars that are vegan, naturally sweetened, and free from processed ingredients and anything that isn’t nutrionally useful. If it’s also 100% organic and tastes good, I certainly won’t complain!

  3. Flavor! And all natural, healthy ingredients! :)

  4. avatar VeganQT says:

That it is vegan and has a great taste and texture.

Being able to understand and pronounce the ingredients are number one. Having something that is palatable also matters. I dont like anything too dense or cardboardy. Is that a word? Ha! And lastly, one that keeps me going with sustained energy.

  6. avatar Lisa says:

Taste ties with nutritional value :)

  7. avatar Christine says:

Easy to carry, filling, satisfying, & tasty
i love walking during the good weather so It helps to take a good snack along

Sustained energy, no animal products, organic grains if at all possible, lower calorie, low sugar and great tasting. No cardboard taste and if at all possible a wrapper than will keep the bar from drying out. Having Simple in the name and being able to pronounce all the ingredients is a major plus. Is the wrapper recyclable? If so thats great as well.

  9. avatar Mark Richard Mandel says:

Low sugar and high protein, otherwise it’s a candy bar! :]

  10. avatar Lacey Giannetta says:

In a bar I look for something that is going being satisfying, fulfilling, and give me the “get up and go” feeling. I don’t have a lot of time in between the time I get home from school to the time I have to go to work. So something that I can grab and go giving me a little burst of energy while not being too heavy, is necessary. Bars are at best when they’re light but substantial and not making you feel bloated. And of course, if it wasn’t all natural, organic, vegan, GMO free, and free of being sugar filled, I wouldn’t ever put it in my mouth!

  11. avatar Scottie Hexter says:

I use an energy bar as a meal replacement, so it should be high protein (vegan-based), low cal/sugar, high in vitamins and minerals, no high fructose corn syrup, and btw, fiber would be nice!

  12. avatar nik says:

Definite deal makers are high protein, high fiber and low or no sugar with lots of chewy-crunchy natural goodness. And if it makes me faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound then I’m buying a boatload of ‘em. ;)

  13. avatar Anonymous says:

I look for something thats delicious that is made with more natural ingredients!

  14. avatar Yatsina says:

I look for something that tastes good but doesn’t have all kinds of chemicals in it! The more natural the better!

  15. avatar Laurie says:

An energy bar has to do just that: give me energy. When I look at the list of ingredients, I want to be sure that I understand them! But I also prefer having a good balance of fat, carbohydrates, and protein to get me through to my next meal or snack.

Another bonus to a good energy bar is finding one that I probably wouldn’t make myself. When there are just a handful of ingredients (like in many vegan energy bars), it is easy to replicate them, and I can’t justify the cost when I can make them myself.

When a bar has ingredients that are more difficult to find, or something that I wouldn’t normally make myself, I’m more bound to purchase some for snack emergencies.

I also like ones that hold up to heat so I can store it in my car for those days I’m craving a snack!

And finally, I am vegan and I have celiac disease — so a key is making sure it is free of allergens, but also not “made on the same line as wheat” or “may contain traces of wheat”. I don’t take risks with my food!
