Far too often, humans can get a little cocky about their intelligence. In fact, when it comes to debating the rights of animals, we as a species tend to rank ourselves higher on the totem pole of importance because of our “intelligence.” This experiment, however, proves that humans may not be as smart as we think … or at least our problem solving skills are a little rusty!

The task behind the experiment was to obtain a peanut out of a long, narrow tube. A combination of adults, teenagers, and children are used – and let us tell you … nobody comes close to figuring the makeshift puzzle out. Most people try to remove the tube from it’s blocky confines in order to shake the peanut out, but none are able to make the snack move. After a few tries, each person watches a video of an orangutan who (to their surprise) uses water to remove the nut.

Incredible, isn’t it? How a non-human primate is capable of completing a task within a matter of seconds while we’re left  shaking tables and pulling tubes to get a little nut? It’s definitely food for thought!
