We know that music can affect human mood, but did you know that animals can enjoy it as well? Recent studies have shed light on the surprising ways in which different species react to musical stimuli. From cows harmonizing with Beethoven’s symphonies to dogs unwinding to the rhythms of reggae, animal responses to music are as diverse as they are intriguing. Unveiling these musical preferences not only offers insight into the emotional lives of our animal companions but also raises questions about the universality of music‘s soothing effects.

In Colorado, in the Boulder Foothills, a man who loves music would spend his days outside writing music and jamming for the various animals in his backyard. He was “playing for any animal that would listen.” But, one animal in particular grew fond of his music – Foxy the fox. The creature would come by almost every day to listen to the man play. So, he decided to try out different instruments and sounds to see what Foxy preferred.

A very musical couple saw a video of a fostered pup called Birks singing along with music. Before being put in a foster home, Birks was found as a stray dog in Korea. At the rescue center in New York City, he made his way to a very musical home where his love for music grew more and more. He even sings!

At an elephant rescue facility in Thailand, a piano player, named Paul Barton, wows the giant residents with his musical abilities. Oftentimes, he finds them waiting at the piano so he will begin to play for them. At Elephants World, they rescue elephants and give them the life they’ve always deserved — including musical entertainment.

Music has a profound impact on anyone, especially the animals shown above. If you’re a pet parent try throwing on a little music and see how your furry friend reacts!
