Bottlegourd peel chutney is a Peel of bottlegourd and ridgegourd (beerakaya) are often used to make chutneys. The peels are really healthy with a good dose of vitamins and fiber. This bottlegourd peel chutney is also super delicious and quite easy to make! Put it on a dosa, some rice porridge, or what ever else you like!

Ingredients You Need for Sorakaya Thokku Pachadi (Bottlegourd Peel Chutney) [Vegan]

  • 1 cup Bottle gourd peel/ thokku
  • 1 Tomato - small, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Peanuts
  • 2 teaspoons Tamarind
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 2 chilies Green - slit
  • 2 teaspoons Chana dal
  • 2 teaspoons Urad dal
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 2-3 red chili Dry
  • 1/2 teaspoon Asafoetida / Hing
  • to taste Salt

How to Prepare Sorakaya Thokku Pachadi (Bottlegourd Peel Chutney) [Vegan]

  1. Heat 2 teaspoons oil in a pan, add peanuts, chana dal, urad dal, mustard seeds and dry red chilies. Once the mustard seeds start to splutter and dals turn golden, add the hing, bottle gourd/ lauki peel, green chilies and tomato.
  2. Cook covered till the peel is cooked through and tomato turns mushy
  3. Add turmeric, tamarind and salt. Mix well and turn off the heat. Cool and grind to a smooth paste. Serve with rice, dosa, idli or as a spread on sandwich.
