The popularity of plant-based meats is causing a surge in meatless options at fast food chains. The very popular Beyond Meat brand has been popping up on all kinds of unexpected menus. Tim Horton’s added Beyond Meat burgers and sausages, and Dunkin’ recently added the Beyond Meat sausage to limited menus as well. Another fast-food giant is now planning to add a meatless option to their menu too.
Subway will be partnering with Beyond Meat to test a meatball sub made with plant-based Beyond Meat. In September, the Beyond Meatball™ Marinara sub will be available at 685 participating restaurants in Canada and the U.S. for a limited time only.
The entire sandwich itself will not be plant-based as it will be served with provolone cheese and grated parmesan cheese, but Subway is excited to offer a meatless option. The Beyond Meatball™ was actually created exclusively for Subway. The sub contains a whopping 24 grams of protein per six-inch sub.
Although Subway did not announce plans to make the meatless sub a permanent part of the menu, it wouldn’t be impossible. Burger King decided to expand their meatless Impossible whopper to all locations after just one month of testing. If there’s one thing all these menu additions tell us, it’s that plant-based eating is in high demand!
