The Plant-Based World Expo North America celebrated its fifth annual event at the Javits Center in New York City on September 11-12, drawing in a record-breaking number of buyers and industry professionals. The event brought together leaders from diverse sectors like food service, retail, hospitality, and distribution. Notably, two-thirds of the attendees were decision-makers with direct purchasing power, underscoring the expo’s growing influence in the plant-based market.
This year’s event highlighted significant global participation, with exhibitors from countries including Mexico, the UK, Italy, and Brazil. Emerging trends focused on whole food-based products and innovations that prioritize sustainability and minimal waste. There was also a clear push for more nutrient-dense plant-based offerings, aligning with consumer demand for healthier food options.
A series of expert-led discussions examined the future of plant-based food, with SPINS CEO Jay Margolis and Joseph Saine of Impossible Foods discussing the integration of plant-based meals into everyday diets. The expo also catered to institutions like schools and colleges, with major companies like Sodexo exploring plant-based menus as a default option for student dining.
The event also hosted the first-ever VEGPRENEUR awards, which recognized standout products based on sustainability, taste, innovation, and market potential. Notable winners included brands like milkadamia, Seed & Shell, and Yo Egg.
Reflecting on the success of the expo, Event Director Jonathan Morley emphasized the importance of the plant-based sector in transforming the global food system. Looking ahead, the next Plant-Based World Expo is scheduled for September 24-25, 2025, at the Javits Center.
