Have you fallen in love with Trader Joe’s? Are you obsessed with their unique and tasty products? Did you know that your favorite local grocery store comes out with new products every month?
It’s true! Trader Joe’s launches new products on a rotating basis, just one of the many special aspects that Joe Coulombe, founder of Trader Joe’s, put into practice in order to keep the shelves fresh and the clients happy.
When Trader Joe’s opened their first store in 1967 in Pasadena, California, Coulombe was already a seasoned business owner. Since 1985, Joe ran a chain of convenience stores called Pronto Markets aiming to get people in and out with their goods in a timely manner.
Yet, it’s the Trader Joe’s brand that really stuck with Coulombe.
It was in 1972 that Coulombe introduced the first private Trader Joe’s label. Wonder what it was? Granola. Not surprising if you’re acquainted with the store. By integrating a host of private labels, Trader Joe’s has been able to cut the costs of their products, making healthy and fresh foods available to everyone. They also follow strict guidelines to provide the best possible product at the best cost including buying directly from suppliers and in volume, switching out unpopular items, and discarding the “suppliers shelf fee.”
Trader Joe’s is also on the front lines in offering diet-specific food items. They have a slew of keto-friendly, paleo-friendly, gluten-free, vegetarian-friendly, and vegan-friendly food products.
So far in 2019 alone, Trader Joe’s has introduced over 80 different products for all kinds of specialized eaters, which were all panel approved for the shelf! Below are 15 carefully selected vegan-friendly products to hit the Trader Joe’s shelf this year!
This Trader Joe’s band Vegan Ranch Dip blew away the tasting panel, making its way from a simple vegetable platter dip to finding its own solo place on the shelf. What makes this dip so different? First off, it’s vegan-friendly. Secondly, a smattering of aromatic seasonings including garlic, shallots, chives, and dill all comingle with a creamy and healthy-fat filled base of coconut cream. Trader Joe’s markets this ranch dip as a great replacement for mayonnaise. A 12-ounce tub costs $3.49.
Trader Joe’s is famous for its high-quality, healthy, and flavorful on-the-go food products! This Trader Joe’s Sesame Crunch Chopped Salad Kit fits all the needs of a nutrient-rich, vegan-friendly diet including a combination of brightly colored plant-based foods — “Savoy and Red cabbages, sweet carrots, and a special appearance by Chinese cabbage (aka Bok Choy) — as well as healthy-fat filled, aromatic, and texturizing foods such as cashews, nori flakes, sesame, ginger, and mustard. The special component that makes this salad a 2019 favorite is the “crunchy, sesame-spiked sticks made from wheat flour and malted barley flour.” The dressing — made with “soybean oil, rice vinegar, and soy sauce and including lively notes of ginger, garlic, and Dijon” — is packaged separately. A 13.8-ounce serving costs $3.99.
3. Chocolate Hummus, August 2019
You’ve heard of chocolate. You’ve heard of hummus. Put the two together in a decadent sweet and savory mixture and you’ve got Trader Joe’s Chocolate Hummus! Trader Joe’s followed a traditional hummus recipe with a “standard base of cooked chickpeas, tahini, expeller pressed canola oil, [and] sea salt,” yet instead of using a typical hummus flavor (garlic, roasted peppers, sesame, etc.) they mixed in “cane, sugar, cocoa, [and] natural flavor.” This hummus is still creamy and textured like any other hummus, but it offers a chocolate explosion in your mouth! An 8-ounce tub costs $1.99.
4. Organic Spicy Taco Sauce, July 2019
Along with ready-to-eat food, Trader Joe’s is also well-known for its sauces! This Trader Joe’s Organic Spicy Taco Sauce has all the goods of any Mexican-inspired culinary concoction with a “base of distilled vinegar and tomato paste” and some added heat from “chili pepper powder, red jalapeño pepper purée, and cayenne peppers.” To mellow the heat and add a punch of flavor, this sauce also has garlic powder, pepper, and oregano. Plus, there’s no added sugar! All-in-all, this sauce is tangy, spicy, and filled with flavor. A 13-ounce bottle costs $1.99.
One of the hottest trends in the health world is rose. Rose everything! Rosewater for your skin, rose extract for aromatherapy, rose flavor for your beverages. Trader Joe’s caught on to this trend and introduced this limited-edition Trader Joe’s Strawberry Fruit Spread with Natural Rose Flavor. With only five simple ingredients — sugar, strawberries citric acid (for freshness), pectin, and natural rose flavor — this is surely going to become a Trader Joe’s staple! Trader Joe’s markets this spread as a niche flavor palate that finds the “balance between fruity and floral” without being overpowering. A 12-ounce jar costs $2.99.
While we may be at the tail end of the summer months, it’s still hot out there! That means it’s the perfect time for a cool and refreshing beverage such as this Trader Joe’s Organic Hibiscus Tea and Lemonade Beverage. When it comes to creating this delicious concoction, there are multiple layers of flavor beginning with cold-brewed Hibiscus tea — “made from water and organic hibiscus flowers” — and then the lemonade is added — “made from organic lemon juice and organic cane sugar.” It’s slightly tart with a sweet undercurrent. Plus, instead of using honey (as most companies are doing these days), this beverage is sweetened with sugar making it vegan-friendly! A 16-fluid ounce bottle costs $1.99.
Another beverage to wick your thirst! Yet, this Trader Joe’s Organic Cold Pressed Green Juice Beverage is more of a healthy meal than a simple refreshing treat. This brilliantly green beverage hosts a helping of nutrient-rich veggies with a “blend of leafy greens, veggies, and zesty citrus fruit.” Want to know exactly what you’re eating in this green concoction? With each 8-ounce serving, you’ll get “one cucumber, two stalks of celery, a quarter of a grapefruit, a quarter of a head of lettuce, one kale leaf, four spinach leaves, six sprigs of parsley, a teaspoon of mint tea, and a bit of lemon.” Cool, refreshing, filling, and incredibly nourishing, this may be your new go-to breakfast or lunch smoothie! A 32-ounce bottle costs $5.99.
Did I mention that Trader Joe’s is famous for its wonderfully unique sauces? Another one makes the list! This Trader Joe’s Ghost Chile BBQ Sauce gets its name from the infamous ghost chile pepper, which is “considered one of the hottest (and tastiest) peppers in the world.” Sounds great, right? What about those of us that love a bit of heat, yet are a little more sensitive? Enter this ghost chile sauce! Trader Joe’s has formulated a blend of subduing ingredients and flavors — such as tomato sauce, cane sugar, molasses, pineapple juice concentrate, herbs, spices, and natural smoke flavoring — to give this sauce both heat, sweetness, and smokiness for sensitive palates. A 19.2-ounce bottle costs $2.69.
Are ghost peppers too intimidating? Still want to try out a Trader Joe’s sauce filled with subtle heat? Try this super simple, slightly hot Trader Joe’s Jalapeno Sauce. Even though this isn’t made from the infamously hot ghost pepper, it’s still got a punch of heat with a design of over 50 percent jalapenos. What makes this perfect for heat-sensitive palates? Along with jalapenos, this sauce is mellowed with canola oil, cane sugar, onion, garlic, salt, and spice, while also offering a completely dairy-free creaminess! A 10-ounce bottle costs $3.49.
Along with pre-packaged, ready-to-eat products and sauces, Trader Joe’s is well-known for delicious, yet affordable alcoholic beverages! Released in May of this year, this Villa Alena Rosé promises to be your new favorite rose on the shelf! This Italy-imported rosé is “fresh, fruity, and just a little fizzy … [with] … an off-dry, easy-drinking” effervescent flavor. This rosé is unique with a “berry-like sweetness and slight citric edge,” as well as a lovely bit of bubbliness. A 750-milliliter bottle costs $8.99.
Looking for new and interesting ways to incorporate Brussels sprouts into your diet? Trader Joe’s has introduced a traditional snack — the tortilla chip — with an untraditional topping — Brussels sprouts. These limited-time Trader Joe’s Tortilla Chips Seasoned with Brussels Sprouts, Garlic, Onion, and Parsley are created with “white corn flour, which gets fortified with some rice flour and potato flakes,” which is then seasoned with “freeze-dried Brussels sprouts in the form of powder.” After some baking and cutting, these little wedges are fried and tossed with seas salt, garlic, onion, and parsley. An 8-ounce bag costs $2.69.
While the chocolate hummus is truly unique and delicious if you’re looking for a more savory option try out this Organic Spicy Avocado Hummus. This hummus uses a traditional base of garbanzo beans, yet integrates healthy-fat filled and deliciously creamy avocado. To top it off, this hummus is whipped with a bit of concentrated lime juice, tahini, extra-virgin olive oil — for an extra creamy texture — and is flavored with organic spices including black pepper, cumin, garlic, and cayenne. Trader Joe’s promises this product to never be frozen — therefore retaining that wonderful texture and flavor — yet will retain a long shelf life through high pressure processing (HPP). An 8-ounce tub costs $2.99.
So, chocolate hummus is too decadent and avocado hummus is too mild, so this flavorful and spicy Trader Joe’s Organic Buffalo Style Hummus may do the trick! This savory alternative is made with “organic chickpeas, organic seasonings, and, most exciting of all, organic chile peppers.” Along with the chocolate and avocado hummus, this buffalo-style retains an incredibly rich and creamy texture, “mimicking the creamy consistency of a dairy-based buffalo dip, but without the actual dairy.” To top it all off, this hummus offers unique notes of pepper and vinegar! An 8-ounce tub costs $2.99.
Nagano soba noodles are acclaimed for the heart-healthy benefits attributed to their mixture of both whole-wheat and buckwheat making them rich in digestive-friendly fiber, vitamins, and minerals. One of Trader Joe’s ready-to-make staples, this newly released Trader Joe’s Vegetable and Soba Noodle Stir Fry mix is the perfect quick-cook, healthy meal for the family that doesn’t require in-depth culinary skills! Plus, the entire meal will be ready to go in just 10 minutes! A 20-ounce bag costs $4.99.

A 1.2-ounce resealable pouch costs $2.99.
