An exciting blend of tech and culinary innovation has landed in the United States, all the way from Israel. SavorEat, an Israeli food tech startup, has introduced its 3D-printed, entirely plant-based meat alternative burgers, but here’s the twist – they’re prepared by robot chefs!

The University of Denver, Colorado, has become the initial US launch site. Students there can now relish personalized vegan burgers, with the three robot chef machines expected to churn out approximately 10,000 meals.
In 2021, SavorEat joined forces with Sodexo Operations, an American subsidiary of the Paris-based Sodexo, to make this venture possible. As part of the entry into the US market, the startup ensured that its robot chef passed rigorous safety tests and inspections to align with US regulations.
CEO of SavorEat, Racheli Vizman, revealed that this is merely the first phase in the startup’s strategy to introduce its innovative robot chef and plant-based products across US universities and tech firm offices. Vizman also hinted at potential commercial endeavors in New York.
For those unfamiliar with the technology, these washing machine-sized robot chefs have been cooking up a storm in Israel at casual and fast-food restaurants, as well as on college campuses and office premises.
But what makes this plant-based meat so special? It’s not just a vegan burger. SavorEat’s product harnesses additive manufacturing tech, combining it with plant-based ingredients in cartridges. The result? A meaty texture, thanks to the unique, plant-based cellulose fiber developed by the founders. Consumers can even customize their food, deciding the level of protein, fat, cellulose, water, and flavor they prefer.
Beyond just mimicking the texture, these plant-based burgers, made mainly from pea proteins, emit the familiar sizzle and aroma when grilled. The outcome is a ready-to-eat, allergen-free, gluten-free vegan burger patty crafted in merely three minutes.
Vizman expressed that while their current focus is on meat alternatives, they’re also exploring other diverse food products.
Moreover, a new and improved version of the robot chef, equipped with voice commands and a faster production rate, is in the pipeline. This technology’s eco-friendly footprint, as claimed by SavorEat, can significantly reduce CO₂ emissions and water consumption.
With global companies racing to dominate the alternative meat industry, innovations like SavorEat’s are a testament to the promising future of sustainable and delectable plant-based foods.
