Former McDonald’s Executive Backs Vegan Fast Food Rival After Being Fired

The former executive of McDonald’s that was fired for dating a colleague has backed a plant-based fast food rival. The former exec Steve Easterbrook backed the vegan rival after being fired over a consensual relationship with an employee, according to a report.

Easterbrook has been linked with the UK-based Clean Kitchen Club, a plant-based fast-food startup. The Clean Kitchen Club, run by YouTuber Michael Pearce and reality star Verity Bowditch, was valued at £12 million ($14.2 million), Business Insider reported. Pearce told the Independent in March that they “want to be the plant-based McDonald’s.”

Although Easterbrook is credited with reviving McDonald’s after he was appointed global CEO, he reportedly engaged in inappropriate behavior when working there. In 2020 McDonald’s filed a lawsuit and accused him of covering up relationships with three other employees. The company accused him of sending dozens of nude photos, some being McDonald’s employees on his work email, approving a stock grant to one of the women in the images, and trying to delete the pictures before the company investigation.
